All about the job

This role will have you at the heart of protecting our natural treasures. Working throughout the city’s open spaces, parks and reserves and coastal landscape – the ideal job for someone looking to work outdoors and contribute to our commitment to the health of the harbour.

You will be responsible for:

  • Carrying out ecosystem weed control across our most precious reserves. 
  • Preparing, planting and maintaining revegetation areas and restoration sites
  • Weed control by mechanical and chemical means and occasional animal pest control
  • Providing friendly, positive and professional customer service excellence at all times

Note that this is a fixed term role until December 2027, covering another employees secondment.

All about you

It would be fabulous if you already hold a wheels & tracks driver license endorsement, have experience using field maps, GPS mapping systems and have some plant identification skills.

You’ll need to show us that you have:

  • Experience in ecological weed control, including safe herbicide use.
  • Growsafe certification and willingness to progress levels
  • Training and/or relevant experience in best practice pest plant control
  • A practical, hands-on approach and enjoy working outdoors in all weather and terrain.
  • Plant ID skills and understanding of biodiversity and restoration
  • A willingness to learn and a commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrated experience to safely and efficiently operate small plant and machinery
  • A level of fitness to meet the physical demands of the role.
  • Good reliability and organisational skills, including the ability to maintain field records.
  • The ability to work well in a small team and communicate clearly with colleagues and supervisors.
  • A NZ Full drivers licence
  • Willingness to use technology (e.g. phones, apps, GPS) to help record work and improve efficiency.
