All about the job

As the Senior Sports Field Specialist, you’ll ensure Porirua’s premier sports ground at Porirua Park is kept in pristine condition. You’ll deliver the programme of day-to-day management and maintenance of Porirua park and other turf areas throughout Porirua.

You will be responsible for: 

  • Ensuring that the sports grounds meet expected standards for high level professional sports such as A-league football and NPC Rugby
  • Assisting the Turf Manager and Team Leader Sports Fields to present high class playing surfaces around Porirua
  • Stand in for the Team Leader in their absence, and assist in day-to-day leadership of the team
  • Maintain and improve all designated sport and other turf surfaces to a high standard, in accordance with Service Level Agreement standards and Sports Codes requirements
  • Work in with the Turf Manager and Team Leader to plan work schedules including all aspects of turf Management including renovations
  • Managing customers’ expectations to deliver the best results for all involved

All about you

It would be fabulous if you have experience managing a wide variety of surfaces and have a passion for Porirua City. This role will give you a diverse range of daily activities to keep you on your toes. This role also provides you a platform to grow your turf expertise and develop your career.

You’ll need to show us that you:

  • have a minimum of a Level 3 Sports Turf qualification, and ideally a Level 4
  • have at least 5 years practical experience in sports field turf management
  • can supervise staff and provide activity direction
  • can work to progress turf maintenance schedules
  • have a positive attitude to work, and will be punctual and motivated
  • are able to work autonomously and have high attention to detail
  • will engage with customers and stakeholders in a calm and positive manner
  • have experience with large and small tractors,
  • can meet the physical demands of the role hold a current and unrestricted NZ Drivers Licence
  • have the ability to work weekends as required for sports events and renovations
