Senior Building Inspector & Mentor

All about the role

You will be a key senior part of an effective and engaged team who deliver high quality Building Inspection services. We are customer focused and get things done. We are seeking a highly experienced professional with the drive to grow team capability and a strong customer focus.

In this role you’ll: 

• Provide technical expertise and advice on matters relating to the Building Act 2004, New Zealand Building Code and other associated regulations up to a Commercial 2 level
• Conduct research and investigations on historic building consents, complaints and building disputes through to a resolution
• Ensure our customers receives professional, reliable, and timely advice across a broad range of building regulatory matters
• Contribute to developing and maintaining a technically capable team through mentoring and developing others
• Actively participate in business improvements, team decision making and provide technical support to peers and leadership team

About you

You will already have a proven high level of technical building inspection knowledge and significant work experience in the regulatory environment. You’re confident and capable working on complex building applications and queries. You’re also energetic and organised with an analytical mind; your interpersonal skills will influence and engage others.

You’ll need to show us that you have:

• experience in providing professional regulatory building inspection services up to a Commercial 2 level (building and plumbing)
• a professional or tertiary qualification acceptable under Regulation 18, Building (Accreditation of Building Consent Authorities) Regulations 2006
• have in-depth knowledge and application of the Building Act 2004, New Zealand Building Code and associated regulations
• have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to foster effective working relationships
• can mentor and coach others on a technical level and bring a positive approach to developing others
