About the roles

We currently have two roles available, please indicate your preference in your cover letter.

1. Principal Advisor, full time, fixed term until 30 June 2026
2. Senior Advisor, full time, 12 months fixed term, parental leave cover

The Principal Advisor role requires someone who is a technical expert, who will lead and participate is delivering highly complex three water matters, especially key strategic growth projects for Council.

This role requires someone who is a strategic thinker, who will proactively engage with developers and other partners internally and externally, asking the right technical questions, and critically evaluating all the information received. You’ll be able to both think and act broadly, understanding impacts across the whole system, while also dealing with day-to-day operations and design processes.

You’ll use your significant technical expertise to provide guidance on three wate matters across council and support team members, passing on your knowledge to ensure Porirua’s three water infrastructure needs are met, now and into the future. 

The Senior Advisor role will manage the existing projects, ensuring the team are working effectively and efficiently, and ensuring our systems and documents are kept up to date. You’ll also engage proactively with stakeholders and customers, ensuring everyone is informed appropriately. You’ll have high attention to detail, be a logical systems thinker, and have a sensible approach. 

About you

Both of these roles require you to have good strategic and operations management skills across the water services industry.

You’ll need to show us that you:

• ideally have experience working with developers and understand development agreements
• ideally have experience negotiating commercial arrangements with developers of the construction sector
• have a relevant tertiary qualification (e.g. engineering, surveying or similar)
• have excellent project management and time management skills
• have a strong relationship management focus, inspiring trust and confidence, with political and legal acumen
• excellent written communication skills especially in complex matters
• have the ability to initiate and develop policies and undertake implementation measures
• have knowledge of local government processes, legislation and systems
