Senior Advisor Emergency Management / Kaitohutohu Matua Hauora me te Haumarutanga

Our city is changing, and we need skilled people to help make that happen. Working for Porirua City is an opportunity for you to make a real difference in the community. You’ll be welcomed into a team that’s collaborative, values input and empowers you to make things happen. To top it off, the harbour and bush are at your doorstep; it’s the perfect place to work.

This is a busy and varied position; you will take the lead in ensuring Council is prepared for an emergency response through recruiting, training and developing the skills of Council staff to play active and engaged roles in our emergency management response and post emergency recovery. A key part of the role will be building genuine and productive working relationships with our civil defence partners and to be an active member of relevant regional committees, along with contributing to the communities’ civil defence readiness.

We are looking for someone with the drive and skill to lead our emergency management readiness, to ensure our Emergency Operations Centre is fit for purpose and build capability and capacity within the team. You will be meticulous in ensuring the systems, processes and documentation is up to date and ready for as and when required. You will have relevant practical experience developing and implementing civil defence systems or processes, along with an understanding of the Civil Defence & Emergency Management Act 2002.

You will be calm under pressure with exceptional interpersonal skills and a genuine collaborative leadership style. Experience with projects and negotiating contracts is required along with a commitment to health, safety and wellbeing in the workplace and in the community.

You will take a lead role during emergency events so you will need to be available to work outside of normal work hours during these events.

Above all else, we are looking for an engaging, team focused person to join our People and Capability team. So, don’t wait. Now is truly the time to make the move.
