RMA Senior Policy Planners / Kaihanga Kaupapahere Māhuri
Porirua City is located 20 minutes from Wellington and is framed by a beautiful harbour and coastline. The city is undergoing major transformation with the imminent completion of the Transmission Gully Motorway, a high rate of growth and several exciting new developments in the pipeline including the regeneration of Eastern Porirua.
All about the jobs
These will be career defining roles in the dynamic Environment & City Planning team, with highly competitive salaries. The team are currently developing a new District Plan for Porirua, set to be notified in 2020. The District Plan aims to weave the requirements of the RMA with the Council’s strategic directions which are:
to ensure Porirua has a healthy harbour & catchment
place children and young people at the centre of the cities decisions
to ensure we have a growing, prosperous and regionally connected city
ensure people have a great city and village experience.
Both positions will ideally be at a senior level although capable planners below this level will be considered. You will primarily be responsible for:
developing key chapters of the District Plan in ePlan format and managing these through the RMA Schedule 1 process
ensuring the District Plan meets all regional and national legislative requirements, including the National Planning Standards
assisting and/or overseeing major new plan changes, including plan changes prepared using the streamlined planning process.

To be successful in the role you will have sound knowledge and experience of the RMA and enjoy a challenge. This role will involve a diverse range of tasks to keep you on your toes. You’ll need to show us that you:
have (ideally) seven years’ experience working with the RMA
have an understanding of local authorities and of the district plan development process
have great oral and written communication skills
enjoy working as part of a fun and dynamic team
possess a constructive, inquiring approach to problem solving and resolving issues.
