Resource Consents Monitoring & Enforcement Officer

About the role

This is a dynamic role where no two days are the same. You’ll be out in the field, working with developers, builders, contractors and the community to ensure resource consents are complied with — while also supporting strong regulatory processes behind the scenes.

You’ll be:

  • Undertaking initial, random, completion and follow-up inspections to ensure compliance with resource consent conditions
  • Investigating public complaints and taking appropriate enforcement action where required
  • Clearly communicating technical requirements in ways people can understand Gathering evidence to support enforcement action under the Resource Management Act
  • Building constructive, professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Proactively working with local contractors and builders to improve onsite silt and sediment controls
  • Monitoring consent timeframes and advising on lapsing or renewals
  • Liaising with Building Compliance to track development progress
  • Working alongside Planning and Policy teams on environmental monitoring and District Plan standards
  • Maintaining accurate records and databases of inspections, complaints and enforcement actions

About you

We’re looking for someone who combines technical knowledge with sound judgement and strong people skills.

You’ll need to show us that you have:

  • Experience in a regulatory monitoring or enforcement role
  • Working knowledge of the Resource Management Act and relevant legislation
  • The ability to interpret District Plan provisions and technical development plans
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and analytical thinking
  • Confidence working both independently and as part of a team
  • A current, unrestricted New Zealand driver’s licence
  • The ability to meet the physical requirements of onsite inspections
