About the role

In this critical role, influential and leadership skills and passion for biodiversity will be a real asset. You will be responsible for: 

  • Implementing the biodiversity strategy though delivering revegetation and restoration plans
  • Ensuring our gardens, tracks and coastal areas are considered with a biodiversity lens
  • Leading the team to execute the day-to-day operations of the revegetation programme.
  • Creating a volunteer base within the community, business and friend groups
  • Introducing an education programme on urban ecology and biodiversity
  • Coordinating planting activities and managing resources and logistics
  • Ensuring compliance with health & safety standards and environmental regulations

About you

You’ll have a strong background in leadership, biodiversity management and practice and have a passion for improving Porirua City’s environment. You’ll need to show us that you:

  • Have a qualification in ecology, environmental restoration of similar experience
  • Have strong people leadership skills and experience
  • Can demonstrate knowledge in ecological restoration, and/or biodiversity management
  • Have great project management skills including planning, implementation, budgeting, monitoring and reporting
  • Will build effective and enduring positive relationships with a range of stakeholders and partners including iwi, community groups and contractors
  • Will inspire, motivate and influence your team
  • Have a full unrestricted driver licence
  • Can meet the physical requirements of the role
