About the role

This is more than a compliance role. It's an opportunity to lead a service that protects, educates, supports and strengthens our community every day.

Together with your team leaders, you’ll hold responsibility for animal control, parking, bylaw enforcement, public health, environmental health, alcohol licensing, noise control and other compliance functions across the city.

In this role you’ll:

  • Provide strategic and operational leadership to a team of regulatory professionals and frontline officers
  • Lead the delivery of monitoring, compliance, education and enforcement activities across multiple legislative frameworks
  • Drive continuous improvement through smarter processes, technology and service innovation
  • Foster a proactive, solutions-focused and customer-centred culture
  • Ensure legislative compliance, sound decision-making and consistent regulatory practice
  • Oversee service performance, operational planning, budgeting and reporting
  • Build strong relationships with elected members, government agencies, businesses, industry groups and community stakeholders
  • Provide trusted advice to senior leaders, councillors and committees
  • Hold the responsibilities and delegations of Chief Licensing Inspector

About you

We're looking for a proven people leader who combines strong regulatory expertise with strategic thinking, sound judgement and exceptional relationship management skills.

You'll bring:

  • Significant experience leading high-performing operational or regulatory teams
  • Strong knowledge of compliance, enforcement, licensing or regulatory environments
  • A track record of driving organisational improvement, change and service excellence
  • Experience developing customer-focused systems, processes and capability
  • Excellent leadership, coaching and people development skills
  • Strong financial management, planning and performance monitoring experience
  • Political awareness and confidence working in complex stakeholder environments
  • Outstanding communication and influencing skills
  • A collaborative leadership style that builds trust, accountability and results
  • High levels of integrity, professionalism and sound judgement

Ideally, you'll also have experience within local government or a similar public sector environment, along with a relevant professional or tertiary qualification.
