Our Business Technology Group provides and manages Porirua City Council’s computing environment, IT infrastructure and information management. This includes managing PCs, laptops, telephony, software and applications, networks, record keeping, official information and security.

About the role

We’re looking for a dynamic Manager Business Technology Operations to lead a team and keep Council’s systems running reliably, securely, and efficiently. This is a fixed term role until 30 September 2026.

This role is about more than technology—it’s about people. You’ll inspire and mentor a talented team, deliver outstanding customer-focused service, and introduce new solutions that make a real difference for our organisation.

What you’ll do

  • Lead and support a high-performing operations team.
  • Oversee day-to-day IT systems, networks, and infrastructure.
  • Drive new technology projects and improvements.
  • Provide trusted advice to the CIO and senior leaders.
  • Build positive relationships across Council and beyond.

About you

If you’re ready to lead with purpose and create real impact through technology, we’d love to hear from you. You’ll need to show us that you have:

  • Strong leadership skills with a people-first approach.
  • Proven IT operations management experience in an Information and Cyber Security, Information Technology, Service Desk Management or Operational Delivery role
  • Broad knowledge of IT Systems, Infrastructure and Information Security principles and practices.
  • Broad understanding of IT principles associated with networks, internet, email, operating systems, firewalls, VPNs, databases, AV management and intrusion detection.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts and align them with business goals and objectives.
  • Great communication and relationship-building skills.
  • A balance of strategic thinking and hands-on know-how.
  • A high level of resilience and the ability to cope with change
