Library Systems Administrator | Kaiwhakatata Pūnaha Whare Pukapuka

Porirua libraries offer a range of library services, collections, leisure activities and spaces to the residents of Porirua City. Our libraries are welcoming, vibrant and varied workplaces with a strong community focus. Our library staff support literacy, and promote knowledge, information gathering, research and study, and our resources include Māori, Pacific and heritage and genealogy collections.

About the role

This diverse and challenging role will embrace your love of keeping systems maintained, functional, and used to their full potential by our staff and customers.

You will: 

• Manage the library’s core technology systems, including the library management system, RFID solutions and public access computers and devices
• Be the subject matter expert for technical support and advice on library technology
• Provide staff training on relevant technologies
• Collaborate with our technology vendors and SMART library partners
• Work in partnership with our ICT department as needed
• Deliver customer service operations including front desk shifts on a rostered basis

About you

This role offers a wide array of challenges and will keep you thinking. It would be fabulous if you have a library tertiary qualification or similar, and a passion for delivering great customer experience.

You’ll need to show us that you:

• Have experience working in a library environment, ideally in a public library
• Have demonstrated ICT systems administration experience
• Sound knowledge of library management systems
• High level technology skills in web-based systems, and a willingness to embrace emerging technologies
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to translate technical jargon to non-technical audiences
• A full NZ Drivers license, as you’ll need to travel to our regional libraries
• Have excellent organisational skills along with the ability to establish priorities and meet deadlines
• The ability to meet safety checking requirements of a core role under the Children’s Act 2014
