Library Supervisor | Kaitiaki Whare Pukapuka


Porirua Libraries serve a population of 64,000 residents from five library locations around the city. We are also part of the SMART library collaboration that includes Kapiti, Masterton, Southern Wairarapa, Hutt City, and Weltec/Whitireia.

Porirua City Libraries’ purpose is to: provide a range of library services, collections, and spaces that support the community in relation to literacy, knowledge, information, research and study, recreation, and leisure activities.

About the role

In this busy and diverse role, your leadership skills and passion for delivering a superior library service will be a real asset.

In this role, you will:

  • provide day-to-day leadership for library assistants and shelvers in the central library
  • ensure the team deliver high quality customer service to all library users
  • manage the efficient running of frontline library services through staffing management and rostering
  • manage the fiction library collection

About you

You’ll bring positive energy, compassion and attention to detail. You’ll need to show us that you have:

  • hold a New Zealand recognised library qualification or similar experience
  • a good understating of how public libraries operate
  • the ability to lead staff to provide a level of customer service that is exemplary
  • experience working with people as a leader and influencer
  • a genuine interest in fiction books
  • a flexible approach, commitment to customer experience and natural ability to relate well to people of all ages and backgrounds
  • excellent communication skills and are well organised,
  • strong problem solving skills and a passion for making things tick
