Library Digital Services Officer


Porirua Libraries are welcoming and vibrant places with a range of services and resources which support the residents’ recreational and educational needs. Many of these resources are online and require specific skills to access and utilize them. Digital literacy is an essential skill to participate in contemporary society and the Library Digital Services Officer has a key role in promoting and providing these skills to the community.

About the role

As our Library Digital Services Officer, you’ll help library users build digital confidence — from job seekers learning to write a CV or apply online, to seniors setting up their first smartphone.

You’ll deliver digital workshops, support library staff to use digital tools, and develop fun, accessible programmes that help people thrive in today’s digital world.

You’ll be doing things like:

  • Helping customers with basic computer skills, internet use, email, and online forms
  • Supporting people to use library apps and e-resources
  • Running digital literacy events and one-on-one sessions
  • Training library staff in digital products and services

This part-time role is for 20 hours per week, and we are flexible how these hours are worked for the right person.

About you

Are you the go-to person for tech help among your friends and family? Use your digital skills to make a real difference in your community.

You’ll need to show us that you are

  • Confident with tech and passionate about sharing your knowledge
  • Patient, approachable, and great with people from all walks of life
  • A great communicator
  • Experienced in customer service, delivering training, or tutoring would be a bonus
  • Confident and capable in setting work priorities and managing your time

This is regarded as a core position under the Children’s Act 2014 and is subject to safety checking
