Senior Policy Advisor / Kaitohutohu Kaupapahere Matua

Porirua’s changing. Thanks to new housing developments, large scale regeneration projects and new transport links, it’s rapidly growing into a diverse, well-connected city with big opportunities.  Porirua City Council is rejuvenating and expanding to prepare for its future growth and continue to develop a resilient, liveable city for future generations.

With all that in mind, now is a great time to join Porirua City in the role Senior Policy Advisor. We are happy to consider full time or part time with a minimum of 30 hours per week.

You will lead policy projects and provide high quality analysis and advice across Council as well as ensuring our policies are well integrated across Council. To be successful in the role you will have broad exposure to local or central government and be skilled at research and analysis.  We are looking for someone who knows the art of researching information, understanding trends and thinking strategically to develop policy covering a broad range of topics for Council.

You will have experience in project management and have a strong ability to interpret legislation, regulatory changes and policy documents. Your communication skills will be top notch and you will be skilled at building and fostering excellent working relationships. Knowledge of Maori strategic initiatives would be advantageous.

Our strategy & policy team is a small, engaged and hard-working team. You will enjoy working on a range of topics, working collaboratively across multidisciplinary groups within Council.

If you’re coming from another local council, you’ll be excited to grow your skills in an up-and-coming council; either you’ll see us as a step up to a bigger council, or an opportunity to bring your knowledge and experience to influence change as we transition. You’ll also welcome life in Porirua – it’s more affordable than many larger cities, with the big advantage of being right beside the sea and beaches.
