Project Coordinator (Procurement)

Porirua’s changing. Thanks to new housing developments, large scale regeneration projects and new transport links, it’s rapidly growing into a diverse, well-connected city with big opportunities.

With all that in mind, Porirua City Council continues to develop and shape a resilient, liveable city for our future generations. We’re at an exciting crossroads as we evolve to being a high-growth Council, and it means continual improvement to the way we do business and work.

This is an exciting and diverse role working within our Programme & Project Management Office. We are seeking an experienced project coordinator who has ideally worked within Local Government. You will have a background in procurement, however, if you feel you can bring your transferable skills in project coordination to this procurement role, we’d love to hear from you.

Our approach to procurement is to empower our staff to carry out their own procurement adhering to our procurement policy and the delegations assigned to each position. Your role is to be a trusted advisor. You’ll build relationships across the organisation, getting exposure to a wide range of procurement scenarios, from construction and roading to professional services. You’ll recommend changes to our procurement policy and processes, facilitate our procurement committee, vet new vendors and manage our GETS listings.

Working with us you’ll get experience with a wide range of businesses. We will value your knowledge of what a good procurement process looks like and your enthusiasm for coaching others to follow the process.

You’ll be part of our small and busy Programme and Project Management team and will enjoy being across the whole organisation’s work programme. Given the size of the team, there are always opportunities to learn new things in procurement and project management.

It would be great if you can provide expert advice on procurement in a user friendly manner and have great communication skills, thriving on building and fostering exceptional working relationships
